Linux Business Expo at COMDEX

Notes from the Linux Biz Expo (Chicago)

William Stearns is at the Expo in Chicago and he called in to give some of his thoughts on what he has seen so far.

First thing he noted was the security. "Security is extremely high here." At first he thought Linus was there and the security was for him. After all the Windows Expo is also going on at the COMDEX. And you never know :) ... But the security is for President Clinton himself. Apparently he is giving some kind of talk at COMDEX. He is not sure if the President has walked through the Linux Expo yet or whether he plans to.

According to William the show is going pretty good. He notes that most of the people seem to know of Linux. Unlike in the past where people were more curious about Linux rather than the Linux Products. He also notes that the show has more of a businesslike atmosphere than normal. Which can be a good or a bad thing according to who you ask.

William wanted to give big thumbs up to LinuxMall for sponsoring the community hub. The hub consisted of GNOME, KDE, GNU Cash, Free Software Foundation and other notables. You gotta love LinuxMall for giving back to the community.

There was a huge line at the Penguin Computing booth for their "Born To Frag" poster. I must say, it is a nice poster, it's hanging on my wall and Tux looks rather determined with his big gun. :) Also people were lining up for the rackspace T-shirts. These aren't just normal T-shirts; each one of them has a unique number that you can enter at their web site and possibly win a prize.

William also saw John "Maddog" Hall manning the Linux International booth. John is also slated in to give a talk on "Ten Misconceptions about Linux". And as usual there will be BOFs from 5:30 to 6:30.

If anyone wants to drop by and say hi to LinuxMonth's own William Stearns, you can stop by at Bascom's section at Caldera's booth (L3248) and say hi. He is a great person to meet and talk to, no really, he is :)
